Challenging for Leadership

Leaders are often challenged for leadership of a team

and often the challenge is subversive and disruptive, which is painful for the leader and the team.

This process (ironically) actually identifies who should not lead the team.

Individuals who are subversively challenging for leadership will often display the following  undesirable behaviours:

1. Disrespecting and disputing the decisions and actions of the leader.

2. Spreading rumours about the leader.

3. Destabilizing the team through rumour and innuendo.

4. Playing overt political games.

5. Actively working against the culture and agreed behaviours.

So who is challenging you and what strategies are you using to take back control?

Also it is worth reflecting on...are you the best person for the role?

Sometimes challenges come from a perception of incompetency around the leader and their abilities and that should always be investigated.
